Globe 1994
Carved from Cypress Macrocarpa this sculpture was first exhibited in Handmark Gallery 1993. Using his freshly developed timber drying technique from the drum making production, Tatton was able to create large pierced hollow ware in wood.
Statement
Globe was a response to the growing phenomenon of web technology in the early 1990s. The zeros and ones symbols are chaotically oriented around the form. In 1996 the sculpture was bought by a Californian collector via his cell phone while in the Bahamas on his yacht.
